Twice a year New Yorkers have the pleasure of enjoying restaurant week (weird name as it is actually two weeks twice a year), and the winter version is in full swing! The basic deal is from January 22nd - January 26th and January 29th - February 2nd, a bunch of the best restaurants in the city come up with amazing three-course prix-fixe lunch or dinner at a low cost - $24.07 or $35.00 respectively.
If you are like most New Yorkers there is always a place that you have heard of but couldn't afford or just cannot justify spending $200 on dinner, if that is you - I recommend you hop over to the site now to make a reservation.
Personal favorites of mine:
Artisanal Bistro
Blue Water Grill
66 or Mercer Kitchen, Spice Market (Jean-Georges Vongerichten is fantastic)
Dos Caminos
Ruby Foo's
Tamarind
Thalassa
I had the pleasure of dining last night at Chinatown Brasserie to say that it was fantastic was an understatement. It was structurally breath-taking, with large lanterns, koi, bamboo tiled ceilings and an intimate darkness without being overly romantic or too city-chic. Perfect for a meeting, friendly gathering, first-date or a last date, the food is light, fresh, perfectly balanced and presented as if you were vip. Everything came out hot, fresh and insanely delicious - and the dessert was just the treat my new eating plan needed.
A great treat at $35 - and I would easily go back there outside of restaurant week and break the bank and please the tummy.
