Raw Organic Food Bar in Chocolate Coconut

I suppose that a bar isn't a proper breakfast, but these Raw Organic Food Bars in Chocolate Coconut things are so good that i want to eat them for every meal. Though hard to find, they are the perfect mix of chocolate (which i'm not a huge fan of), coconut, dates and other delish though mushed up stuff that i don't care to actually look at. I keep them by my computer and eat them half at a time when the urge to snack slaps me in the face, and at 230 calories a pop they are a pretty solid snack.

Vodka Rosemary Lemonade Fizz

I meant to take a picture of what I think may be my summer cocktail of choice, the Vodka Lemonade Fizz. The original recipe is from Gourmet Magazine but I've made some tweaks below, and I think it's just what you need on another rainy June day - a refreshingly light summer cocktail that packs enough of a silent punch so you can forget that it should be about 70 degrees, dry and sunny. 

• 1 cup fresh lemon juice
• 1 cup sugar
• 2 (8-inch) rosemary sprigs
• 1/2 cup vodka (*we used Smirnoff Lime)
• Chilled club soda or seltzer (*we used Poland Spring Lime Sparking Water)

• Bring lemon juice, sugar, and rosemary to a boil in a small saucepan, stirring until sugar has dissolved, then reduce heat and simmer 2 minutes. Cool completely, about 1 hour. Discard rosemary sprigs. (This can be added to many drinks so you may want to make more (though the recipe is for 8). Pretty sure it lasts forever and smells amazing.)

  Fill 8 (8-ounces) glasses halfway with ice. Divide syrup (about 2 tablespoons each) among glasses and add vodka (1 tablespoon each...or a bit more). Top off with sparkling.

Crawfish and boys from Louisiana...

I highly recommend falling for a guy from Louisiana. 

Really. If for no other reason but the joy of having live crawfish sent to your nyc apartment. From the moment of seeing these little buggers crawl around in water to "purge" to pouring them perfectly cooked on a newspaper covered table, opening up a cold beer and eating until your nose runs and your lips burn.

I guess you don't really need the LA guy part, but that's part of the fun. Do it. Really. It was my first crawfish experience and I wouldn't have it any other way...

My new uniform

My current uniform is a comfy pair of black workout pants and one of D's tees. But in a my mind, this is what I'm wearing: skinny jeans, white tank, jacket, heels and all. Once I can see the end of this - this necklace is my first buy.

That was the date yesterday.

Yesterday I was laid off.

I know that I am not the only one this has happened too, I know that I will not be the last. But it is still happening, it still hurts, I'm still shocked and scared and sick to my stomach. Everyone says that this will end up being a good thing and I do believe them - but not today. Today sucks. Today it sucks.

Tomorrow, or maybe Monday it will be an adventure.

Monday I will write here more, bake/eat and reconnect with friends with myself, remember what it feels like to have choices, send around my resume - hope that my site is up and running and that I can feel again, maybe enjoy the freedom, perhaps even sleep in or run.

But that's Monday. Today is Friday - let's hope this weekend goes by fast...
